9-year-old boy executed in Chicago over father's gang ties

9-year-old Tyshawn Lee was walking on Chicago's south side when he was lured into an alley and killed, but his father, whose alleged gang ties are believed to have played a role in the boy's murder, won't talk, according to disgusted police who on Friday pleaded for the community to help identify Tyshawn's killer.

Tyshawn, an elementary school student, was walking to a relative's home at approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday when the killer or killers lured him from a nearby park and into a neighborhood alley on the 8000 block of S. Damen Ave., where he was shot in the head and back.

Authorities have called on the child's father, Pierre Stokes, to cooperate with them in solving the murder Monday that they described as "absolutely hateful."

"Let me be clear that Mr. Stokes is a parent who lost his son," Anthony Guglielmi, chief spokesman of the Chicago Police Department, told FoxNews.com. "But he potentially knows who did this. He potentially knows the background of the feud he was involved in."

As of Friday morning, according to police, Stokes was not cooperating. "He emphatically communicated he has nothing to tell us," Guglielmi said.

"It’s so heinous that a criminal enterprise would target the child of another gang member." said Anthony Guglielmi, chief spokesman of the Chicago Police Department. "It's gone to another level that, frankly, Chicago hasn’t seen in a very long time."

Guglielmi's remarks come a day after the Chicago Police Department released chilling details about the child's murder. Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy told reporters during a press conference Thursday that Tyshawn was targeted because of recent violence between two gangs, one of which his father is a member.

Guglielmi said investigators initially thought the boy might have been "in the wrong place at the wrong time." But the shock of the child's murder prompted members of the community to come forward with information about his father's gang affiliation.

Guglielmi said he knows the gangs involved but, "We need more people to come forward."

"This case is going to break on community intelligence," he said, noting a 35,000 reward that is being offered for any information leading to an arrest. "We are going to find out who did this. We are going hold them accountable."

A local Catholic priest has also said he's committed to justice for the boy and offered to pay money out of his own pocket to help anyone with information move from Chicago.
The Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of Chicago's St. Sabina Church and a well-known anti-violence activist said:

"This was not a drive-by. This was not a spray of bullets. A baby was executed," Pfleger told Tthe Associated Press. "We have gone to a new low that's removed what used to be some codes, some barriers, some lines that used to be drawn in the community, some things in our city that were not acceptable."

Emmanuel who is separated from the victims mother, regained custody of his daughter in October after the victim’s mother brought her back to him so she could further her education.

While I was inside the bathroom I called out for help but neighbors could not hear me because I was weak.

It was my father that helped me out of the bathroom and took me inside.

When I got inside he gave me Garri to drink and before I knew what was happening. He removed my wrapper and had s*x with me.

Nicholas Nwabueze, 22, is a customer of Ifeoma Olewu, the mother of Somtochukwu, 2. On the 27th of October, 2015, went to her shop, Zone 4, World Bank Area, New Owerri, Imo State to buy something. But he saw Chukwu coming out of their compound all alone while Ifeoma was inside the shop.

He quickly abducted him and demanded a ransom of N500,000 which was paid the next day. He however kept the boy in his custody, hoping to release him immediately after cashing the money. He only succeeded in withdrawing N120,000 through the ATM machine.

After that, the machine stopped dispensing and he was forced to go inside the bank to ask why. It was in that process that he was arrested. He later confessed that he wanted to obtain money from the parents since the boy’s father resides in China.

The men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ogun State command, have impounded two purposely-built bullion vans and a Ford bus loaded with bags and parcels of Cannabis Sativa popularly known as Indian hemp.

The two vans, with number plates, FKJ 731 XQ and LSR 837 XR respectively, were impounded in Ijebu Igbo area of the state, where the suspects had abandoned them. Concealed inside the vans were 42 bags of the illicit drug, weighing 512 kilogrammes.

Sean Tizzle recently spoke to Naij.com exclusively on his new role in Iyabo Ojo’s movie and the situation between him and Basketmouth.

You are playing a gigolo in the movie, how close is your characterisation of the role to real life?
That’s not me in any way though. It’s far from who I am in real life and that’s why I say I had to eliminate myself to play the role.”
What led to the issue with Basketmouth and the entire drama surrounding it?
Man, it’s a long story. Basketmouth reached out to my team and I didn’t turn him down. He reached out to my team because it is supposed to be a medium of communication amongst us.
So, what exactly happened?
What happened is, we have some external bodies in the team. These guys act like a form of agency that mediates in the process of getting shows and events. You know I have my manager, my publicist and my producer D’Tunes but he didn’t reach out to any of these people. Rather he spoke to one of our agents, a lady called Rachel, and she gave the monetary details of my performing at any show. Not that it was aimed at Basketmouth or that I was trying to be disrespectful because she was just being professional.
It was a normal conversation between a person reaching out to get an artiste to come on his show and is like: ‘Can we get Sean Tizzle to perform at a show at a certain time?’ And she says: ‘Yeah, he’s available and this is the fee.’ She wasn’t being rude or anything because, I mean, she was really just looking out for herself in the process of doing her job. You have to understand that she gets her cut off every gig I play at and all that. It’s normal. I think she was just being professional with it. And again I think it wasn’t Basketmouth who called, it was his PA who did. So, what do you expect her to do, bro? So the word got back to Basketmouth and he wasn’t okay with it. But at the same time [he] has my contacts, he has my manager’s contacts but didn’t reach us or nothing. In fact, man, we didn’t even know about it until it got out on social media.         
Are you saying he didn’t approach you the right way because he didn’t reach out to you directly?
No I’m not saying that. I won’t say he didn’t approach me the right way. I’m just saying it wasn’t me. Basketmouth didn’t contact me or anyone directly in my team because definitely we won’t disrespect him. We’ve been cool from day one. I can remember my first show in London and it was Basketmouth who called to have me on the list. In short we had a meeting at the place. We sat down and we had this meeting and discussed the full details of the show. We had the conversation and all that. You know he is my big bro in the industry and so I expected that if anything he was supposed to holler at me directly like: ‘Man, Sean, I heard you won’t come on my show if I don’t pay you blab la and all’ …you understand? And I would have been quick to address the situation on ground. But not until it reached social media we didn’t have any idea what was happening. We didn’t even know what was happening. I swear to God we didn’t have a clue.
And it was kind of surprising when word got out to social media that I didn’t want to come on his show. I mean the first time I was on his show he spoke to me directly about it. And what’s even funny is this thing happened about two years ago. It happened in 2013. It is not even a recent incident. And it’s surprising because Basket is someone I really respect in the industry. And I have been seeing him at weddings, shows and all of that. He could easily have said ‘Ah Sean, I don’t like what you did the other time o.’ And I would have addressed the situation as well as apologized immediately.
Did he reach out to you to perform at his Lord Of The Ribs concert on October 4?
Nah. He didn’t say anything to me or anyone around me.
So, from this what is next for you?
Oh I’m grateful to God for where I am presently. I will be dropping about four to five singles before the year runs out. These songs will come with videos as well. I’m dropping a song soon and it’s called Murder Me. Then I’ll be dropping Telephone Man, a song with Sean Kingston’s DJ.
What has it been like working with D’Tunes?
D’Tunes is dope. He is magical.
What makes him magical?
A lot. His percussions are mad and he’s a great producer in terms of he knows how to direct good music. He understands the arrangement of sounds and all the essentials of making a great sound.
Having tried acting for the first time in Astray will you give it another shot?
Yea, definitely I will. I find it really enjoyable and fun. It’s a whole different phase entirely. Initially, I had little doubts in myself but as time went on I got the courage to continue with playing my role in the movie.
How is this experience different from making a music video?   
It is quite different in the sense that acting is deeper and more demanding in terms of timing and how much you get to memorize. You need to put up the right attitude that sells the character well enough and all that. Your facial expressions, body language, and all that. From this experience I would say actors need to be respected a lot for the efforts they put into making movies and stage plays. Honestly.

The Nollywood star explained this, among other things, in an interview with Punch. She also credited African Magic for lending some help in making the movie project a success.
In response to why it took this long for her to produce a movie herself just as her colleagues in the industry have done, she answered: “I chose to be an actress. Acting was what I had always wanted to do. I don’t think that I ever imagined myself producing a film. I love acting. If the Nigerian movie industry was as stable as it should be, I probably would have been on the set of a movie every day of my life and not be bothered about what goes on behind the camera. So it is a matter of choice and preference.”
The movie, which has enjoyed a relatively good buzz online since the trailer dropped, features Majid Michel, Ebele Okaro and Oris Ehuero amongst other actors.
A steamy bathroom scene was posted online over a week ago and has helped pique fans’s interests.
Explaining why she chose a unique set of actors for the movie she said: “It is part of our effort to open up Nollywood to more newcomers and to create opportunities for people who are very talented and who have the passion for this job. This is why we have somebody like Ishaya Bako in the team.”
Oris Ehuero, who was formerely a model with years of international exposure, plays the role of Genevieve’s husband in the movie which is billed to premiere on November 18.

Former Cross River Deputy Governor Dies

Chief Matthias Offoboche, the former deputy governor of Cross River state in the second republic and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party  is dead, according to family source.

The octogenarian elder statesman passed away on Sunday, October 25, The Guardian reports.
Confirming his death on Tuesday, October 27, Juliana Offoboche, wife of the deceased and former director of public prosecution in Cross River said he has been having some health challenges since August.
She said: “Yes, it is true. He often gave us some premonition of his death. He would urge us to hurry up to complete any task he wanted done by jokingly telling us: `hurry up, I may not be here.
“But he did not die in London last week as speculated.
“Who took him there? Did they take him there? I am presently in his house in Abuja, devastated. Surely, we will get back to you.”

She however refused to give details on the cause of his death.
Offoboche was the deputy to late Chief Clement Isong, former governor of the state on the platform of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
Until his death, he had been campaigning for the creation of Ogoja state and power shift to the Northern senatorial district of Cross River.
He studied Medicine in Dublin and did postgraduate course in the Royal College of Physicians, London.
He was a specialist Obstetrician Gynecologist, a politician and an Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

B'Haram: Soldiers Reveal What Boosts Their Morale

Soldiers of the Nigerian army who are fighting with insurgents in Baga have said that they are not very comfortable with the use of artillery.

Speaking with Daily Post, the soldiers said that they prefer using rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) as the machine boosts their morale and encourages them to fight against the deadly Boko Haram sect.
According to one of the soldiers, the artillery should be scrapped because terrorists do not fear the sound that it produces, but they are afraid of RPGs.
“Last week when they brought RPGs, see how happy our guys were. We charged at the Boko Haram guys and killed over 100, but we lost 4 soldiers. In fact, it is better than before, when artillery will be firing but no target. This one, you will see how you are clearing the Boko Haram boys and you are sure you killed them,” the officer said.
Speaking about the recent Boko Haram attack, another soldier said:
“Three days ago at Durun Giwa, the insurgents came attacking us with mortar. They fired over hundred and arrested one Fulani man and stripped him naked. They sent him to us to tell us that we should be gathering all the weapons because they are coming to collect everything.”
The soldier said that they allowed the Fulani man to go back and tell militants that they were gathering the weapons, and they should come and collect them.
He added that after a short time, insurgents began to fire at them, but when the soldiers returned fire with the RPGs, the area was cleared of the insurgents in 30 minutes.

The soldiers revealed that they were happy with the decision of the military authorities that they would now spend two years at an assignment and be transferred. However, one of the soldiers did not want to leave Maiduguri after he was transferred out of the state.
“He did not want to leave because he was never asked to go to the bush to fight, otherwise he would have appreciated God for the transfer,” another soldier noted.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force has carried out air strikes and destroyed the terrorists’ vehicle workshops, fuel and ammunition dumps all within the Sambisa forest.
Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar assured Nigerians that with these successful strikes on the terrorists, their capabilities have been further degraded to pave the way for the final onslaught by the land forces to meet President Mohammadu Buhari’s directive to bring the insurgency in the north-east to an end.

Lt. General Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) has decorated 2,903 brave soldiers currently fighting the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, with medals in Mubi, Adamawa state.

Buratai told the soldiers at the 28 Task Force Brigade Headquarters, Mubi, on Tuesday, October 27, that the decoration was part of the military tradition to motivate its personnel at the war front, The Punch reports.
He said: “I am in Mubi together with some key military personnel to see and get firsthand operational requirements of the Brigade and its affiliated units as well as to identify challenges facing them. I have been briefed and I am happy, the Brigade and its units are doing very well, I highly commended their efforts.”
He reaffirmed that their sacrifices for protecting the country’s sovereignty from enemies would never be elapsed.
The chief of Army staff earlier, at the emir’s palace thanked the monarch for the support given to the Brigade.

He also appreciated the cooperation between hunters, vigilance groups and the Brigade, saying that the development is highly useful and should be maintained.
“We will not relent, we still need continued cooperation because we are working toward limit time of December deadline. We, therefore, solicit for your support, particularly timely information and report of any suspicious character,” Burutai said.
The Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Isa Ahmadu, in his response assured Buratai of his people’s continued support for the military to achieve its goals.
In the same vein, the Chief of Army Staff on Monday, October 26, paid a morale boosting visit to war-torn Yobe and Borno states, in a bid to ensure the military keeps up with its promise of crushing Boko Haram by December.
Buratai a few days ago reiterated that Nigerian troops will wipe out Boko Haram sect by December, was spotted in Yobe and Borno states, which have both been under serious attacks recently.

House Of Reps Investigate EFCC

Following the allegation of non-remittance of sized fund and forfeiture of properties worth over N1 trillion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the House of Representatives has ordered its standing committee to commence investigation into the case.

The House also agreed to reassign the investigation raised against the EFCC boss, Ibrahim Lamorde by George Uboh to either ICPC or the Police.
The need for the investigation was move by House minority leader, Leo Ogor(PDP, Delta) under matters of national importance tagged: “Urgent Need to Investigate the Non-remittance of Court-forfeited Funds and Properties by the EFCC Into Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation and for other Related Matters”.

Ogor added that George Uboh had already presented a petition against past and present leaders of EFCC over misappropriation of fund which the Senate is currently investigating.
He said: “The past and present leadership of the EFCC is being accused of diversion of funds worth billions of naira meant to be paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation.”
Meanwhile, the federal government had reportedly ordered a discreet investihation of the allegation of diversion of recovered fund leveled against the chairman of EFCC. The investigation is said to be carried by the Ministry of Justice.
Lamorde had accused of diverting N1 trillion proceeds of corruption which was recovered by EFCC. The director of public prosecutions of the federal Ministry of Justice, Muhammad Diri, had indicated that the allegations against Lamorde should be investigated and the result sent to him.

The Nation reports that the fake soldiers were paraded by Fatai Owoseni, the commissioner of the police, on Tuesday, October 27.
According to the police, the suspects are 25-year old John Izunwanne, 23-year-old John Otu, 22-year-old Richard Acha, and 39-year-old Simon Anthony.
Briefing journalists, Owoseni said that materials recovered from the suspects included: two Nigerian army camouflage uniforms, army camouflage t-shirts, a pair of boots, two army belts and two jungle hats.
One of the arrested men, Anthony, revealed that he had been dismissed from service as a corporal for falling out from duty.
“I was dismissed in January 2014 for falling out from duty. I am from Adamawa state. I wanted to use the uniform to travel to Lagos because I had no transport money. But unfortunately, I was arrested by soldiers,” he said.

Another suspect, Acha, said that he had found the camouflage t-shirt inside the bag his brother gave him at Ikeja cantonment.
Izunwanne told journalists that he bought the uniform at Ojo Cantonment on September 2.
“I wanted to go and sign my army recruitment form at Ojo Barracks when I bought the uniform at the Mammy Market. However, on October 7, my friend had a court case and I was to appear in court as a witness. The court was in Agege and I did not have the transport fare to go, so, I decided to wear my uniform to save me the cost of transportation,” he said.
Otu said that he heard his friends were arrested and went to the police to secure their bail, but was also apprehended for wearing the uniform.
Earlier this year, the Lagos state police command apprehended three fake soldiers, one fake Air Force personnel and three car snatchers.
Owoseni revealed that one of the suspects threatened to blow up the Command Headquarters because police officers at Ipaja Division refused to grant his friend bail.

Lagos commissioner sends out letter demanding to be addressed by her professional title

There is a silent uneasiness within the Lagos state Civil service over a letter sent by the newly appointed commissioner for Youth & Social Development, Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf (left) to the office of the Chief of Staff demanding that she be addressed using her professional title as a Pharmacist.

The letter, titled "Re:Appointment of the newly sworn Honorable Commissioners" which was sent out on Wednesday October 21st and signed by the permanent secretary Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Adenle O.F, reads in part;

 "I am directed to refer to the above subject and to inform you that the Honorable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development will like to be officially addressed as Pharmacist (Mrs) Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf. Consequently, any publication or correspondence should be addressed as stated above".

Some of the civil servants argue that her insistence on the use of her professional title is uncalled for as that will not determine her effectiveness in office while some say she has the constitutional right to demand how she will like to be addressed.
