Nigerian Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack on Maiduguri

Nigeria’s military has repelled a Boko Haram attack on Maiduguri, a day after the country’s new president vowed to strengthen the defences of the key north- eastern city that was the birthplace of the militant group.

The Islamists’ assault on the Borno state capital saw rocket- propelled grenades (RPGs) fired into homes earlier on today, witnesses and security sources said.

It came after Muhammadu Buhari’s inauguration, where he promised a new command and control centre to better coordinate the counter- insurgency effort in the region. Shortly after midnight (2300 GMT Friday), residents in the Dala suburb south of the city woke to the sound of RPGs being fired in succession, said resident Modu Karumi, in an account supported by several others.

Witnesses said hundreds of Islamist gunmen were trying to advance on the city, which is now home to hundreds of thousands of people displaced by unrest in other parts of Borno state.

An AFP reporter who lives in the area said he heard what sounded like armoured personnel carriers deploying to the southern edge of Maiduguri to face the rebel advance.

Dala resident Alhaji Bukar said he saw at least one RPG fall into a private home, but details on casualties were not immediately clear. Locals reported other residential homes being hit.

According to the GuardianUK, three senior security sources in Maiduguri who were not authorised to speak publicly said the attack had been repelled.
“All is under control. There is no cause for alarm,” one of those sources said. The sound of RPGs and gunfire had also quietened, residents and an AFP reporter said.
Experts doubt that Boko Haram currently has the capacity to seize Maiduguri, but a major attack inside the city could still be disastrous for civilians.

The Islamist rebels have been flushed out of several Borno state towns they controlled in an offensive launched in February by Nigeria with backing from neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

But there are signs of the militants regrouping, particularly in the remote parts of eastern Borno near the Cameroon border.

Actor turned politician Desmond Elliot took to his twitter account today to reveal he's being sexually harassed by a gay man named Steve. This is the same person who has been accused of harassment by a few actors including Yul Edochie. What Desmond wrote after the cut...
Okay a subject matter at hand. In the last 7 months or so, I have been constantly harassed by a man named Steve I have asked him politely, harassed him, spoken to him cursed him out just for him to desist from his sexual advances toward me but all to no avail..
His constant stalking and harassment I believe has been witnessed by some of my male colleagues in the film industry.I told him 2weeks ago that if he didn't stop I'll be forced to take it out, my phone lines, I have to put off cos he calls every second of the day, ALL LINES, my watts app is bombarded with photos of his past love life and the very second you block his number he generates another and the unending calls continues. He is based in Canada, Igbo name I believe is Onyebuchi.. I have called my Canadian friends to help out.. the Canadian police have called many times, one lucky time he was asked to stop but I believe that's the best they can do.
please my people who are lawyers how do I go around this.. A humble plea. I believe there must be someone who knows him or heard about him because this guy isn't new at all.. He's taken my number to Many sites and I get calls from everywhere asking to connect for things am alien too.

Henry Gagariga, to death with a kitchen knife on the throat around 11pm of Wednesday, February 4 after a quarrel in Bayelsa has finally appeared before a state high court in Yenagoa for the first time. The presiding judge, Justice A.S Rotimi, adjourned proceeding to 18th June 2015, to enable the prosecuting (the state) hand over certain forensic evidences to the defence counsels before hearing commence.

However, an appeal by the prosecuting counsel to have Victoria remanded at the Okaka medium security prison in Yenagoa until final judgment is read was granted.

The alleged husband slayer before killing her husband works at the Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture, and is reportedly the daughter of a renowned journalist and retired director in the state Ministry of Information.

Recall that Victoria stabbed her husband, Gagariga, to death during a domestic quarrel in their bedroom and was sighted by neighbours while attempting to dump his body on the road.
