Lagosgist A girls hostel at the University of Uyo caught fire this afternoon. It started from a room and spread to two other rooms. Thankfully the fire was contained by man-o-war and fire service before it spread to more rooms. And more thankful is that no life was lost. The cause of the sudden fire is yet to be known. 37 killed in fresh boko haram attacks


Lagosgist 37 people mostly men and youths were killed after Boko Haram attacked 5 villages in Borno state yesterday June 10th. The sect members riding in a convoy of utility vehicles, stormed Koshifa, Matangle, Buraltuma, Darmanti, Almeri and Burmari villages all in Damboa local government area of Borno state where they slaughtered people they came across. They also burnt some homes.

Gov. Ambode to provide 20 new rural roads in each LGA every year


Lagosgist Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, yesterday, said his administration is committed to provide 20 new rural roads every year in each Local Government, as well as the development of communities across the state. Ambode, said this during a meeting with members of the Neighbourhood Watch and Community Development Committees, CDCs, at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja. Ambode, who was represented at the event by his Deputy, Dr. Oluranti Adebule, said his administration's policy is to give back government to the communities. He also appreciated the contributions of the Neighbourhood Watch members to the maintenance of law and order in the communities, adding that there was the need for the Neighbourhood to embark on self appraisal in order to ensure that the members live up to the expectations. The Coordinator of the Neighbourhood Watch, Alhaji Akeem Sanni commended the state government for always recognizing the Watchers. Firefighter responds to car crash, finds wife and son are the victims


Lagosgist A firefighter responded to head-on collision and found his wife and young son among the victims. “It’s my family. My wife was laying there on the ground,” firefighter Aaron Van Riper said. “I don’t know how either one of them lived. There was nothing left of that car.” Both his wife, Amber, and son, Jonathan, 7, were airlifted to the hospital. Both suffered multiple fractures. Lagosgist Van Riper told KTRK his wife went through nine hours of surgery on Sunday to repair a broken pelvis. "She gave a thumbs-up to the doctor, but that's the first time she showed signs of anything," Aaron added Lagosgist Both his wife and son are expected to be in wheelchairs temporarily as they recover. It is unclear if anyone else was injured in the accident. Lagosgist However the family doesn’t have medical insurance so friends set up a GoFundMe account to raise $50,000 to cover the medical costs.
