A 26-year-old frustrated mother, Funmilayo Tijani has been arrested by the Ogun state police command for allegedly stabbing her two-year-old son, Emmanuel, to death at her residence on Ogunso Street, Orelope Estate, in the Egan, Sango Ota area of the state on May 27th.
According to a report by Punch, Funmi, who is separated from her son's father and lives with her father, was arrested after Neighbors raised an alarm after she was found with a blood stained knife. Her child was later found dead with stab wounds. Mother and late child pictured above
A neighbor, Akeem Ijaola, who resides in the same area with Funmi when the incident happened said Funmi, a fashion designer, narrates what happened
"Funmilayo and her son stayed with her father in a one-room apartment. The boy attended a private school in this area. About 4pm on the fateful day, we noticed that something was going wrong in the apartment. When people went near, they saw the boy in a pool of blood. He had been stabbed many times. Funmilayo at that time looked like a mentally-derailed woman. The boy died before anyone could take him to a hospital. Although no one could ascertain the cause of her action, Funmilayo is divorced, and the child was born out of wedlock about three years ago.”Another neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Funmilayo might have committed the act out of frustration as she was financially and emotionally unstable.
“She tried to borrow money during that week from her boss, but she failed. There are also arguments whether her husband was the father of the boy or her father, who she stayed with. Also, her former husband, John, has married another wife who gave birth a few weeks to the incident. I think all these contributed to Funmilayo’s emotional breakdown.”Speaking on the incident, Funmi's father, 53 year old Mr Adebayo from Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, said
“Funmilayo’s mother died about 20 years ago. She grew up staying with me. I married a second wife later, but separated from her years ago. Funmilayo had been staying with me since she separated from her husband. John initially refused to accept her pregnancy. But they went for a DNA test, which confirmed him as being responsible for the pregnancy. Thereafter, he took her to a place in Apapa, and they were planning to travel to his hometown in Delta State,. but I refused and asked her to come back home.”he saidThe Ogun state police spokesperson DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident and said Funmi has been acting very strange since she was arrested.
“The police were at the scene to recover the body of the child. The woman has been acting strangely like someone with an unsound mind. She has been arrested and investigation is ongoing.”The child's body is said to be in the morgue.
Africa's Richest man, Aliko Dangote says he will soon buy Arsenal Football club once he completes the refinery that he is building in Lagos. He said this to BBC Hausa on Tuesday June 16th
“When we get this refinery on track, I will have enough time and enough resources to pay what they are asking for. There were a couple of us who were rushing to buy, and we thought with the prices then, the people who were interested in selling were trying to go for a kill. We backtracked, because we were very busy doing other things, especially our industrialization.”he saidDangote had shown interest in buying the club when he spoke with

This evening Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce offered to donate his wardrobe allowance to Osun state workers who have not been paid their salaries for months (read here). Well, the government of Osun state didn't appreciate his 'kind' gesture and clapped back at him. They released a statement saying he is mocking Nigerian workers. My attention has been drawn to a tweet by a member of Upper chamber of the National Assembly Senator Ben Murray Bruce of the PDP from Bayelsa saying he will not reject the alleged hefty pay for members of the National Assembly but collect it and donate to Osun workers. It is saddening and tragic that Mr. Murray Bruce whom many had
accorded a lot of respect is too early in the day joining the fray of politicisation and trivialising the salary issue affecting more than half of the states of the federation in this ridiculous manner. While Nigerians are in hot debate over the alleged jumbo pay and the mood of the country Murray Bruce seems to have turned the plight of Nigerian workers to a thing of an entertainment. Of all the states in the federation who are battling to pay salaries as a result of the precarious economic situation his party the PDP threw Nigeria into why is it that it is Osun he wants to take his pay to?
This is certainly playing to the gallery and nothing but a mockery in the faces of Nigerian workers and not only of Osun extraction. It is not only wicked but ungodly to play politics with the suffering of the people. If the Senator’s conscience tells him his pay is too high especially in the face of the prevailing economic predicament of Nigeria the most honourable thing to do is to lead a protest for reduction and not a self serving philanthropy only in the direction of Osun workers.

This morning I shared a photo of the bad state of the pedestrian Bridge at CMS in Lagos - it was filled with trash. The Lagos Waste Management, LAWMA, have since done something about it. The bridge has been effectively cleaned up and the Authority has assigned a sweeper to ensure sustainability. More photos after the cut...
