Emmanuel Adebayor dropped as captain of Togolese national team

Lagosgist A lot of people have family issues...most don't go on the internet to expose themselves like footballer Emmanuel Adebayor did. That action seems to have repercussions because not only has his football club Tottemham given him compassionate leave to go sort himself out, he has now been dropped as captain of Togolese national football team. The captaincy of the former African Footballer of the Year was revoked by Togo manager Tom Saintfiet on the morning of their opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia. Despite scoring at the match and helping them win, his captaincy has not been returned. Reacting, Emmanuel Adebayor said he is not sure of his future in the national team and says he may not play in the next match which is in September 'For now, I don't know if I'll play in September - I'll be here and I'll talk with the coach. I need to know whether he really needs me in the team or not. I have been the captain for seven or eight years and then one morning I'm told I won't be the captain - that means that we can go to Djibouti and he will put me in the stands." he said

The PDP Media Watchdog is not the mouthpiece of the Party... But a Political Pressure Group

LagosgistYesterday, the PDP denounced a group that called itself PDP Media Watchdog after they released a statement asking president to resign over his comments that there's a limit to what he can do because of his age. The group has released a statement explaining who they are. Read below... PDP Media Watchdog is not the mouthpiece of the Party... But a Political Pressure Group The PDP Media Watchdog has welcomed the clarification by the mouthpiece of our great party, Chief Olisa Metuh who responded to a statement by our group on Wednesday June 17, disowning the watchdog for calling on President Buhari to resign as President if he cannot deliver on his campaign promises due to his complain of fatigue and age. The group while accepting the clarification said that the PDP Media Watchdog cannot speak for the PDP which is the sole responsibility of the National Publicity Secretary and other designated leaders of the Party but will continue to perform her role as a Pressure Group in constructive criticism of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) for blackmailing Nigerians to vote them into power. "The PDP Media Watchdog is not the mouthpiece of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the job of the National Publicity Secretary of our party is clearly and well defined in the Party Constitution and as law abiding and loyal members of the party, we cannot and will not go against that but as is the usual practice in a democracy where everyone has the freewill to express his or her opinion on matters of National interest, the watchdog will continue to monitor events in the APC administration and provide fair criticism when necessary" the group said. The group laud Chief Olisa Metuh, the party's spokesman for the clarification and thanked members of the PDP nationwide for maintaining their calm in the face of this glaring deceit and hypocrisy of the APC in the last three weeks of President Buhari's administration. Photo: Mother arrested for stabbing 2 year old son to death in Ogun

Lagosgist A 26-year-old frustrated mother, Funmilayo Tijani has been arrested by the Ogun state police command for allegedly stabbing her two-year-old son, Emmanuel, to death at her residence on Ogunso Street, Orelope Estate, in the Egan, Sango Ota area of the state on May 27th. According to a report by Punch, Funmi, who is separated from her son's father and lives with her father, was arrested after Neighbors raised an alarm after she was found with a blood stained knife. Her child was later found dead with stab wounds. Mother and late child pictured above A neighbor, Akeem Ijaola, who resides in the same area with Funmi when the incident happened said Funmi, a fashion designer, narrates what happened "Funmilayo and her son stayed with her father in a one-room apartment. The boy attended a private school in this area. About 4pm on the fateful day, we noticed that something was going wrong in the apartment. When people went near, they saw the boy in a pool of blood. He had been stabbed many times. Funmilayo at that time looked like a mentally-derailed woman. The boy died before anyone could take him to a hospital. Although no one could ascertain the cause of her action, Funmilayo is divorced, and the child was born out of wedlock about three years ago.”Another neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Funmilayo might have committed the act out of frustration as she was financially and emotionally unstable. “She tried to borrow money during that week from her boss, but she failed. There are also arguments whether her husband was the father of the boy or her father, who she stayed with. Also, her former husband, John, has married another wife who gave birth a few weeks to the incident. I think all these contributed to Funmilayo’s emotional breakdown.”Speaking on the incident, Funmi's father, 53 year old Mr Adebayo from Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, said “Funmilayo’s mother died about 20 years ago. She grew up staying with me. I married a second wife later, but separated from her years ago. Funmilayo had been staying with me since she separated from her husband. John initially refused to accept her pregnancy. But they went for a DNA test, which confirmed him as being responsible for the pregnancy. Thereafter, he took her to a place in Apapa, and they were planning to travel to his hometown in Delta State,. but I refused and asked her to come back home.”he saidThe Ogun state police spokesperson DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident and said Funmi has been acting very strange since she was arrested. “The police were at the scene to recover the body of the child. The woman has been acting strangely like someone with an unsound mind. She has been arrested and investigation is ongoing.”The child's body is said to be in the morgue.
