When you get to a certain age and not married, people start to wonder. But when you're 54, very successful and never been married...Kenyan lawmakers grill you mercilessly...lol. That's what happened to the man nominated to head the country's Central Bank. The lawmakers wondered, if you can't find a woman, keep a woman and make a home, how can you keep our money? Lol.
54 year old University of Nairobi and Yale-educated economist Patrick Njoroge, who works as an adviser at the International Monetary Fund, is single. Never been married, doesn't have children and when he appeared in front of Kenya's parliament last week, telling them how he can move their economy forward as head of their Central Bank, they were like, really? lol. He was so grilled about his marital status that it caused debate online in Kenya with quite a few condemning the lawmakers
The lawmakers asked him about economic policy, why he doesn't have assets in the country and why he isn't married.
"I am single by choice and I am comfortable that way," he told the lawmakers. "There is nothing sinister with that and I am sure this committee has done its due diligence on what sort of a person I am". Kenya's Daily Nation quoted him as sayingWhy so much interest in his marital status? In Kenya and in most parts of Africa, it's unusual to find a man over 40 who has never been married, so his status will definitely raise eyebrow in the country because the average age of first marriage in Kenya for men is about 30 years old.
Many condemned the line of questioning on twitter though, saying that Njoroge's competence, rather than his personal life, that he should be tested by.

A new 'smart condom' was created by a group of teenage students for the Teen Tech awards, which they claim will glow different colors if it detects an STD!
The creators said the condom will work with a layer of chemicals on the surface that will attach to bacteria and viruses from STDs.

Unknown gunmen on Monday June 22 shot dead the Lagos state Coordinator of The Lord’s Chosen Charis-matic Revival Ministries, Pastor Chukwuemeka Okpokpo, at Apple Junction, Amuwo Odofin area of the state.
According to a report byVanguard, the gunmen, in a motorcycle, trailed the pastor from a bank where he had gone to withdraw N3million for the church, fired shots into the air, which sent people scampering for safety.
Witnesses said Pastor Okpokpo tried to escape when it became obvious that he was the target. He reportedly slowed down on reaching a bad spot in the road, and that was when the hoodlums shot at the tyres of the Chosen vehicle he was driving, which caused the car to stop.
One of the gunmen then got down from their motorbike, walked to the vehicle and shot Pastor Okpokpo in the stomach. He was said to have waited to ensure that Okpokpo was no longer breathing before he took the nylon bag containing the money, went back to his two colleagues in the motorbike and they all took off.
Residents were said to have rushed to the scene then raised an alarm when they found out that the victim was wearing the Lord’s Chosen reflective jacket. Some of them were said to have alerted members of the church, who rushed him to the church’s clinic at Ijesha.
When news of the tragedy filtered in, those who knew him wept uncontrollably. It was learnt that a prayer session aimed at resurrecting him reportedly took place between 12.30p.m. and 8p.m. Some of the church members thought that the gunmen could have been hired assassins and not robbers.
The Lagos State Police Command said it had begun investigation into the murder.
