Former Cross River Deputy Governor Dies

Chief Matthias Offoboche, the former deputy governor of Cross River state in the second republic and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party  is dead, according to family source.

The octogenarian elder statesman passed away on Sunday, October 25, The Guardian reports.
Confirming his death on Tuesday, October 27, Juliana Offoboche, wife of the deceased and former director of public prosecution in Cross River said he has been having some health challenges since August.
She said: “Yes, it is true. He often gave us some premonition of his death. He would urge us to hurry up to complete any task he wanted done by jokingly telling us: `hurry up, I may not be here.
“But he did not die in London last week as speculated.
“Who took him there? Did they take him there? I am presently in his house in Abuja, devastated. Surely, we will get back to you.”

She however refused to give details on the cause of his death.
Offoboche was the deputy to late Chief Clement Isong, former governor of the state on the platform of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
Until his death, he had been campaigning for the creation of Ogoja state and power shift to the Northern senatorial district of Cross River.
He studied Medicine in Dublin and did postgraduate course in the Royal College of Physicians, London.
He was a specialist Obstetrician Gynecologist, a politician and an Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

B'Haram: Soldiers Reveal What Boosts Their Morale

Soldiers of the Nigerian army who are fighting with insurgents in Baga have said that they are not very comfortable with the use of artillery.
Soldiers of the Nigerian army
Speaking with Daily Post, the soldiers said that they prefer using rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) as the machine boosts their morale and encourages them to fight against the deadly Boko Haram sect.
According to one of the soldiers, the artillery should be scrapped because terrorists do not fear the sound that it produces, but they are afraid of RPGs.
“Last week when they brought RPGs, see how happy our guys were. We charged at the Boko Haram guys and killed over 100, but we lost 4 soldiers. In fact, it is better than before, when artillery will be firing but no target. This one, you will see how you are clearing the Boko Haram boys and you are sure you killed them,” the officer said.
Speaking about the recent Boko Haram attack, another soldier said:
“Three days ago at Durun Giwa, the insurgents came attacking us with mortar. They fired over hundred and arrested one Fulani man and stripped him naked. They sent him to us to tell us that we should be gathering all the weapons because they are coming to collect everything.”
The soldier said that they allowed the Fulani man to go back and tell militants that they were gathering the weapons, and they should come and collect them.
He added that after a short time, insurgents began to fire at them, but when the soldiers returned fire with the RPGs, the area was cleared of the insurgents in 30 minutes.

The soldiers revealed that they were happy with the decision of the military authorities that they would now spend two years at an assignment and be transferred. However, one of the soldiers did not want to leave Maiduguri after he was transferred out of the state.
“He did not want to leave because he was never asked to go to the bush to fight, otherwise he would have appreciated God for the transfer,” another soldier noted.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force has carried out air strikes and destroyed the terrorists’ vehicle workshops, fuel and ammunition dumps all within the Sambisa forest.
Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar assured Nigerians that with these successful strikes on the terrorists, their capabilities have been further degraded to pave the way for the final onslaught by the land forces to meet President Mohammadu Buhari’s directive to bring the insurgency in the north-east to an end.

He said: “I am in Mubi together with some key military personnel to see and get firsthand operational requirements of the Brigade and its affiliated units as well as to identify challenges facing them. I have been briefed and I am happy, the Brigade and its units are doing very well, I highly commended their efforts.”
He reaffirmed that their sacrifices for protecting the country’s sovereignty from enemies would never be elapsed.
The chief of Army staff earlier, at the emir’s palace thanked the monarch for the support given to the Brigade.

He also appreciated the cooperation between hunters, vigilance groups and the Brigade, saying that the development is highly useful and should be maintained.
“We will not relent, we still need continued cooperation because we are working toward limit time of December deadline. We, therefore, solicit for your support, particularly timely information and report of any suspicious character,” Burutai said.
The Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Isa Ahmadu, in his response assured Buratai of his people’s continued support for the military to achieve its goals.
In the same vein, the Chief of Army Staff on Monday, October 26, paid a morale boosting visit to war-torn Yobe and Borno states, in a bid to ensure the military keeps up with its promise of crushing Boko Haram by December.
Buratai a few days ago reiterated that Nigerian troops will wipe out Boko Haram sect by December, was spotted in Yobe and Borno states, which have both been under serious attacks recently.

The Nation reports that the fake soldiers were paraded by Fatai Owoseni, the commissioner of the police, on Tuesday, October 27.
According to the police, the suspects are 25-year old John Izunwanne, 23-year-old John Otu, 22-year-old Richard Acha, and 39-year-old Simon Anthony.
Briefing journalists, Owoseni said that materials recovered from the suspects included: two Nigerian army camouflage uniforms, army camouflage t-shirts, a pair of boots, two army belts and two jungle hats.
One of the arrested men, Anthony, revealed that he had been dismissed from service as a corporal for falling out from duty.
“I was dismissed in January 2014 for falling out from duty. I am from Adamawa state. I wanted to use the uniform to travel to Lagos because I had no transport money. But unfortunately, I was arrested by soldiers,” he said.

Another suspect, Acha, said that he had found the camouflage t-shirt inside the bag his brother gave him at Ikeja cantonment.
Izunwanne told journalists that he bought the uniform at Ojo Cantonment on September 2.
“I wanted to go and sign my army recruitment form at Ojo Barracks when I bought the uniform at the Mammy Market. However, on October 7, my friend had a court case and I was to appear in court as a witness. The court was in Agege and I did not have the transport fare to go, so, I decided to wear my uniform to save me the cost of transportation,” he said.
Otu said that he heard his friends were arrested and went to the police to secure their bail, but was also apprehended for wearing the uniform.
Earlier this year, the Lagos state police command apprehended three fake soldiers, one fake Air Force personnel and three car snatchers.
Owoseni revealed that one of the suspects threatened to blow up the Command Headquarters because police officers at Ipaja Division refused to grant his friend bail.

Army Exposes Big Men Plotting To Prolong Boko Haram

The Nigerian Army has raised the alarm over plans by “some highly-placed individuals” in the North East, particularly Borno State, to sabotage military operations in the region.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public and send a very strong and serious final warning to some prominent individuals and political groups who hailed from Borno State in particular and North East generally, that there is information of plans by some highly placed individuals and political groups to undermine and scuttle the fight against terrorism and insurgency in this country.
“The unscrupulous individuals and their cohorts were determined to reverse the gains made and scuttle our efforts of achieving the Presidential directive to defeat Boko Haram terrorists within 3 months. They are enlisting the services of some Non-Governmental Organizations in this grand design...
“It has come to our knowledge that they were employing every means to see that the operation does not succeed in order for them to continue to enjoy certain benefits.

“It has been revealed that they are employing the services of marabouts and other unethical means in order to frustrate our efforts and the operations in addition to campaign of calumny.

“We are aware of their clandestine meetings and other diabolical efforts to achieve their nefarious aims. This would not be tolerated.

“Therefore, such individuals and groups should be warned in unmistakable terms that anyone found would be dealt with accordingly.

“People should place the interest of the nation above any personal gain or ambition. The continued lost of lives and property in this country through terrorists activities does not one any good.”
A statement released by the army spokesman, Sani Usman, said the elite were bent on having the activities of the Boko Haram terrorists prolonged for their selfish interests.
I wonder why some people are just heartless. What will they benefit if Boko Haram continue to kill?

Saraki Begs Obasanjo To Help Talk To Buhari; OBJ Intervenes

President Mohammadu Buhari on Saturday held a secret meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in New York in a bid to calm the tension going on in the All Progressive Congress (APC) over the ordeal of the controversial Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The meeting which was held behind closed door at the Millennium Plaza Hotel in New York lasted for about 45 minutes.
Sources who were part of the meeting at its early minutes before being excused said that the former president had called the protocol officers of President Buhari to schedule the talks in order to plead for a soft landing for Saraki.

However, former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was sighted at the door of the room where the meeting took place, and all efforts to speak with him proved futile as he was busy struggling with security men who repeatedly stopped him from gaining entry.

All efforts by newsmen to speak with Obasanjo on his way to his hotel after the meeting met a brick wall as his security men prevented any interview from taking place.

Obasanjo even had to caution his security men, saying: “E fi won s’ile”, meaning “leave them alone”.

SARAKI SAGA: PDP's Secret Plots Exposed

Barely 24 hours after the arraignment of Senate President Bukola Saraki, some of his loyalists and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators are secretly planning to fight back, The Nation has learnt.

They are said to be working on a plan which will lead to the election of a new Senate President from the PDP, should Saraki be convicted by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) - the "worst case scenario."

Security agencies already know about the plot, it was learnt.

Besides, there are signs pro-Saraki senators may have “laid an ambush” for President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial list, which is being expected at the Senate “any moment from now”.

They may reject the list and all appointments so far by the President in protest against Saraki’s trial.

The Presidency is unruffled:
A source, who spoke in confidence, said last night: “Some loyalists of Saraki and PDP senators have been meeting on the options available and how to tackle President Buhari.

“At the meeting in Abuja, they resolved to stand by Saraki but if he is convicted, they will make sure that the next president of the Senate is from the PDP.

“They are really aggrieved and have vowed to stop the candidate of the Unity Forum, Sen. Ahmed Lawan, from emerging as Saraki’s successor.

“From the way PDP and its senators are rallying around Saraki, no one needs a soothsayer to know that a bigger conspiracy is in the offing. The PDP has not come to terms with the fact that it lost the last general elections.”

Part of the plot is to reject Buhari’s ministerial list and all appointments so far made by the President.

The appointments include the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON), etc.

The source went on: “They know that Buhari will not present imposed candidates as ministerial nominees and they are out for a pound of flesh as from September 29 because the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) dragged the President of the Senate to the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT)”

It was gathered that security agencies have smashed the plot. A government source said: “The whole plot is aimed at frustrating the President and cause a political crisis in the country.

“They have this feeling that they must pull down the house due to the arraignment of Saraki by CCT. In spite of denial, they are pointing accusing fingers at the Presidency for Saraki’s travails.”

Attempts to make loyalists of House of Reps Speaker Yakubu Dogara to pitch their tent with Saraki appear to have suffered a setback.

It was learnt that although Saraki backed Dogara to become the Speaker, the “template has changed”.

“To take sides is to set the House on fire all over. This will not augur well for the new National Assembly,” said one of the close associates of Speaker Dogara.

Buhari's FULL Ministerial List Finally Ready, Names Revealed

As earlier promised by President Muhammadu Buhari, he will unveil list of his Ministers between Tuesday and Wednesday this week, to kick start their screening by the Senate as prescribed by the law.

OluFamous.Com gathered that some of the names who were dropped initially due to allegations have now been included and President Buhari has warned them to stay clear of financial scandals.
The names of top politicians on the list are:
Kayode Fayemi
Rotimi Amaechi
Abdul Danbazzau
Oby Ezekwesili
Pat Utomi, etc.

The special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina confirmed in New York last weekend that the list of ministerial nominees will be made public on Wednesday.

Adesina noted that Buhari is a man of his word who would not renege on his promise to Nigerians that he would announce members of his cabinet this September.

The Senate is billed to resume sitting tomorrow after seven weeks of recess. A top presidency official said that the list and a covering note from the president is likely to be read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday or Wednesday.

But following Buhari unshakable stance that people with questionable character as ministers would not make the list of his ministers, there is a growing anxiety as to content of the list both within and outside the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

Will former Lagos governor, Babatunde Fashola eventually make the list? We are watching!

PDP Attacks President Buhari Over Choice of New Ministers

One event that is keeping many Nigerians waiting at the moment is President Muhammadu Buhari's list of new ministers, ahead of the deadine on Wednesday. Many are hopeful he won't disappoint Nigerians.

But the national leadership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has alleged that the ministers will be useless in President Buhari’s government.

The PDP leadership are claiming that
the disposition of Buhari was not to appoint any aide, but to run the government as a sole administrator.

The opposition party alleged that this was the reason President Buhari had been shifting the dates when he would appoint his cabinet, adding that he had earlier tagged ministers as “noise makers.”

“From his hesitancy and comments, it is deducible that President Buhari never intended to appoint ministers but rather prefers to run a monocracy and evidently does not value or respect those he would nominate as ministers.

“Otherwise, how can anyone repackage the mindset of the President when he, in an interview with France 24 Television in France, stated categorically that his preference is to rule without a cabinet and denigrated ministers as ‘noise makers,’ and of no importance or value in the running of an administration?

“Given this worrisome outlook, it is obvious that the Presidency would not attach any value or importance to the ministers under the new sheriff,” PDP insisted.

Rihanna & Travis Scott: He Wants Chris Brown’s ‘Blessing’ Before Dating Her

Rihanna Loves Chris Brown

Could Chris Brown end up derailing Rihanna’s hot new romance with Travis Scott? The rapper doesn’t want to get too involved with the ‘We Found Love’ singer unless Breezy is okay with it. HollywoodLife.com has all the EXCLUSIVE details!

Rihanna, 27, is getting hot and heavy with Travis Scott, 23, but he doesn’t want to get serious with her until her former flame, Chris Brown, 26, approves. HollywoodLife.com has the EXCLUSIVE details on why RiRi’s ex might be standing in the way of her finding new love.
“Travis really digs Rihanna and believes he can have a future with her. He’s had many women in his life, but none of them compare to how sexy, intelligent and loving Rihanna is,” our source tells Hollywoodlife.com EXCLUSIVELY. But the Houston based rapper is afraid of breaking the bro code when it comes to dating the “Diamonds” singer.
“He’s very aware of her emotional attachment to Chris. Travis knows Chris, and he doesn’t want any issues with him due to the fact that he’s getting close with RiRi. Man to man, Travis wants to talk to Chris and clear the air, as well as get Breezy’s blessing. It’s out of respect for Chris,” our insider shared.
Travis and Rihanna have been showing off PDA during New York Fashion Week. They were even spotted grinding and making out at an after-party. But they have known each other professionally before things turned romantic. Travis was a co-writer on Ri’s hit, “Bitch Better Have My Money!”
“Travis and RiRi have talked about Chris and she told him that he’s a very ‘special person’ in her life and that she will ‘always love him.’ Travis thinks that’s noble of them to have that connection, and he just wants to make sure Breezy is cool with his connection to Rihanna” our source shared.
“Plus, the music biz is very small. Everyone knows everyone. And Travis wants to work with Chris in the future and doesn’t want his dating Rihanna to become a future problem in his career,” our insider tells us. It makes sense that if Travis wants to collaborate with Chris, Breezy needs to be okay with him dating his former love. It’s going to be a tricky situation for everyone involved.

Heads as well as hearts': Croatia says it can take no more migrants

After suddenly finding itself in the path of Europe’s biggest tide of migrants for decades, Croatia said on Friday it could no longer offer them refuge and would wave them on, challenging the EU to find a policy to receive them.
The migrants, mostly from poor or war-torn countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, have streamed into Croatia since Wednesday, after Hungary blocked what had been the main route with a metal fence and riot police at its border with Serbia.
“We cannot register and accommodate these people any longer,” Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic told a news conference in the capital Zagreb.
“They will get food, water and medical help, and then they can move on. The European Union must know that Croatia will not become a migrant ‘hotspot’. We have hearts, but we also have heads.”
The arrival of 17,000 since Wednesday morning, many crossing fields and some dodging police, has proved too much for one of the EU’s less prosperous states in a crisis that has divided the 28-nation bloc and left it scrambling to respond.
A record 473,887 refugees and migrants have crossed the Mediterranean to Europe so far this year, the International Organization for Migration said, most of them from countries at war such as Syria who are seeking a better, safer life.
Hundreds of thousands have been trekking across the Balkan peninsula to reach the richer European countries to the north and west, especially Germany, which is preparing to accept 800,000 migrants this year.
But that has wrongfooted the European Union, which has come up with no common policy to deal with the biggest wave of migration to Western Europe since World War Two.
Hungary acted on its own to shut the main route this week by closing its border with Serbia, leaving thousands of migrants scattered across the Balkans searching for alternative paths.
Croatia, offering an overland route to Germany bypassing Hungary, found itself suddenly overwhelmed, and began sending migrants in trains and buses to Hungary.
Gyorgy Bakondi, head of Hungary’s national disaster unit, said more than 4,000 migrants had arrived from Croatia on Friday without any prior consultation, and up to 1,200 more could come before the end of the day.
With tempers clearly fraying, he said authorities had seized a Croatian train carrying migrants to the town of Magyarboly, disarmed the police who were escorting it and arrested the driver.
Hungarian government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs said the incident “raised the suspicion of a border violation”.
However, Croatian police spokeswoman Jelena Bikic said no one had been disarmed or arrested, the escort had been agreed in advance, and the police had returned to Croatia.
Hungary did, however, agree earlier in the day to register at least 1,000 migrants delivered from Croatia.
“TIME TO DEAL DIFFERENTLY”
While Zagreb made welcoming statements earlier this week, Milanovic said he had called a session of Croatia’s National Security Council and that it was time to deal with the problem differently. The president has told the military to be ready if called on to help stop the flow of people.
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker spoke to Milanovic by phone to offer Croatia technical and logistical help in coping with the flood of migrants.
Croatia, the EU’s newest member state, has already closed almost all roads from the border. Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic said if the crisis continued “it is a matter of time” before the border was shut completely, though Milanovic, in his remarks, questioned whether even that would keep migrants out.
Police have rounded up many migrants at the Tovarnik railway station on the Croatian side of the border with Serbia, where several thousand spent the night under open skies.
“We are so exhausted,” said Hikmat, a bare-footed 32-year-old Syrian woman from Damascus, after a journey, like many others, by sea and then through the Balkans to the border between the two former Yugoslav republics.
She said she had been traveling for two months with her son, and added: “Look at me. I just want to get anywhere where we will be safe.”
Some kept traveling and reached tiny EU member Slovenia overnight. Many did so by evading the police and trekking through fields or traveling by train, exasperated by Europe’s confused response to the crisis.
“I didn’t expect such a reaction from Europe … They first open the doors then they close them. They punish the people,” Syrian migrant Dara Jaffar said at Tovarnik’s railway station.
Worried by the situation, Slovenia stopped all rail traffic on the main line from Croatia. Late on Friday, Prime Minister Miro Cerar – reversing his earlier stance – said Slovenia might consider forming a “corridor” for migrants to pass via its territory to western Europe “if the pressure is too great”.
A Reuters reporter saw Slovenian riot police using what appeared to be pepper spray on a crowd of migrants trying to cross the border from the Croatian village of Harmica.
Unlike Croatia, Slovenia is a member of Europe’s Schengen zone of border-free travel, an important goal for refugees. With around 1,000 migrants expected to enter Slovenia in the next 24 hours, it has said it plans to abide by EU rules by receiving asylum requests but returning illegal migrants.
EMERGENCY EU SUMMIT
After failing to agree on a plan to distribute 160,000 refugees across the EU — just a fraction of the numbers arriving this year — the bloc has called a summit for Wednesday to work on a united response.
Donald Tusk, who chairs EU summits, called on Friday for a credible EU migration policy and said member states must stop shifting responsibility onto their neighbors.
In a letter addressed to the 28 leaders ahead of the summit, Tusk, a former Polish prime minister, also urged them to provide donations to the World Food Program to help feed some 11 million refugees in Syria and the region.
Tempers are fraying among some migrants trekking across Europe.
In the Croatian town of Beli Manastir, just over the border from Hungary, angry groups of Afghan and Syrian migrants, waiting for trains to Zagreb, fought with rocks and sticks at a ticket office.
Rocks, smashed bottles and broken sticks littered the ground. A handful of police in ordinary uniforms tried to restore control.
Relations between EU states have also been damaged, with several suspending the Schengen rules to restore emergency border controls to slow the flow.
Despite criticism by rights groups and some EU officials, Hungary’s right-wing prime minister, Viktor Orban, said his country was extending the fence along its southern border with Serbia to the Croatian section.
Serbia warned its neighbors against shutting down the main arteries between them, saying it “will seek to protect our economic and every other interest before international courts”.
Germany, which is planning to host by far the largest number of refugees, says other EU countries must do their part.
Some other EU states, especially former Communist countries in the east, reject quotas to accept refugees. They accuse Berlin of exacerbating the problem and encouraging the overland surge by suspending EU rules to announce in August it would take in Syrian refugees wherever they enter the EU.
German Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel renewed a threat that countries that do not help in the migrant crisis will be deprived of EU funds.
Interior ministers will try to overcome the differences on Tuesday, a day before the summit of EU leaders.
“These occasions may be the last opportunity for a positive, united and coherent European response to this crisis. Time is running out,” Adrian Edwards, spokesman for the U.N. refugee agency, said in Geneva.

Meet the most dedicated Kim Kardashian clone.
A transgender superfan of the buxom reality TV star has reportedly shelled out more than $100,000 to look like her favorite celebrity — and now she's on the hunt for her own Kanye West.
"I think Kim Kardashian is absolutely stunning, she is gorgeous," Thalia Almodovar, 28, told Barcroft TV. "I love the shape of her body. I think she is beautiful an
The New York City beauty said she's frequently mistaken for her idol after she got butt enhancement surgery and breast implants in 2009 and spent nearly $31,000 to match Kim K.'s wardrobe.
Almodovar, who was born male but started transitioning in high school, said she "embraced" the new attention from people confusing her with the famous "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star.
"I would get preferential treatment in clubs and restaurants. Walking down the street people would mob me for selfies. It was incredible," she said.
d I admire what she has accomplished."
She had fat transferred from liposuction to form her now-voluptuous bottom and uses a mobile app to find the best places to buy outfits similar to Kardashian's.
"Everything about Kim's attitude really resonates with me," she said. "I love my life, and I love being mistaken for Kim."
But being the carbon copy of the curvy socialite has its flaws. Men often can't see past their own obsessions with Kim, Almodovar said.

"Sometimes I am just not in the mood when guys just want to talk to me because I look like Kim without getting to know me," she said. "That annoys me."
"I had this guy that dated me only because he had an obsession with Kim and he thought that I look like her," she added. "It was like almost a fantasy."
But Almodovar is still holding out hope her Yeezy is just on the horizon.
"I'm single now so I'm on the lookout for my own Kanye," she said.
