Buhari says the US and others will assist Nigeria recover stolen funds

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said his administration had received firm assurance from the United States and other countries recover and return funds stolen from Nigeria. According to a statement by the President's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President said it was now up to Nigeria to provide the international community with the facts and figures needed to drive the recovery effort. He said: “In the next three months, our administration will be busy getting those facts and the figures to help us recover our stolen funds in foreign countries,” Adesina quoted the President as saying.The president made this statement to members of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Citing the report submitted by the Ahmed Joda-led transition committee, President Buhari said that several revenue-generating institutions in the country had been compromised. In regards to insecurity, the President said traditional rulers would play a key role in stemming terrorism and insurgency in the country. This, he said, they would do by assisting the government with cost-effective intelligence gathering. Buhari also assured the traditional rulers that his administration was working hard to end insecurity and terrorism in the country in the shortest possible time with the cooperation of neighbouring countries and the international community. Acknowledging that Nigerians expected a lot from his administration, the President appealed for patience and understanding while his government works diligently to speedily overcome the huge national challenges it inherited. The Sultan had earlier presented the Northern Traditional Rulers’ recommendations to the President on issues related to national development.

CEO of Jay Z's Tidal quits after just 2 months

More hard times for Tidal, as its latest CEO, Peter Tonstad, has left the company just after 2 months on the job. The high-definition music streaming site was purchased for $56 million back in March by hip-hop business mogul Jay Z and it became a private company. It has had its ups and downs but it's still going on strong, well except for the CEO leaving the company. Peter Tonstad, was a former CEO of Tidal's parent company Aspiro Group, as interim chief executive before he became the CEO of Tidal on April 17th 2015. He didn't tell the public why he resigned, he just did. Tidal released this statement: “We can confirm interim CEO Peter Tonstad is no longer with the company. We are thankful to Peter for stepping in as interim CEO and wish him the best for the future. Tidal will be transitioning to a permanent CEO as part of our strategic plan to create a leading platform, and current executives in New York and Oslo will continue to lead our rapidly developing innovation and content initiatives until our new CEO is in place.”It remains to be seen whether a replacement is waiting in the wings with an even better understanding of the industry, but the news caps a tumultuous period for Tidal, after its starry relaunch press conference was widely seen as a misfire.

Mother killed, baby injured, when tree limb falls on playground

A 16-year-old Polk County mother was killed Friday when a tree limb fell on her and her young son. LaRena Drayton was killed in Peek Park when the limb fell while she and 1-year-old Jeremiah Drayton were sitting on a park bench. According to LaRena’s sister, the young mom had just moved her son from the baby swings to a park bench when they heard “something crack.” She says, LaRena tried to run with Jeremiah in her arms but they weren’t fast enough. LaRena was knocked unconscious and later died while Jeremiah was flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in Sandy Springs with a skull fracture. Cedartown Parks and Recreation said in a statement, “Our hearts have been heavy since learning of the tragic accident at Peek Park. The passing of Miss Drayton has left our city saddened and we grieve alongside the family for a life that was undoubtedly cut short. We continue to pray for the recovery of Miss Drayton’s young son who was seriously injured in the accident. We ask that everyone keep the entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.” A spokesperson for the department says it is investigating why the tree limb fell but that right now it looks like a healthy tree and a freak accident.

Teen who wanted to show his support to ISIS by killing 1,000 Americans is arrested after his father alerted authorities

A 19-year-old who said he wanted to support ISIS by killing as many as 1,000 Americans has been arrested after his dad alerted authorities. Justin Nojan Sullivan, a self-described Muslim convert from Morganton, North Carolina, was arrested and faces several charges, including attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State group. Federal authorities were first made aware of the teen's alleged plot when his father, Richie Sullivan, told emergency dispatchers on April 21 that his son was destroying religious items in their home. 'I don't know if it is ISIS or what, but he is destroying Buddhas and figurines and stuff,' Mr Sullivan, a former Marine, said, according to the criminal complaint filed on Monday. 'I mean, we are scared to leave the house.' In the background of the call, his son was heard asking: 'Why are you trying to say I am a terrorist?' When an undercover FBI employee made contact with Sullivan on June 6, the teen told him via email that he was a a Muslim convert, according to court documents. I liked IS from the beginning then I started thinking about death and stuff so I became Muslim,' he said, according to the complaint. Two days later, he said he wanted to kill 500 people but the next day said he wanted to kill 1,000 by using biological weapons, a gas bomb and bullets coated with cyanide. 'Even if we get someone in the arm they'll still die because of the poison,' he allegedly said. 'It's vengeance.' He also told the undercover federal worker that he planned to buy a semi-automatic rifle on June 20 at a local gun show so he could carry out his murderous plan, according to the criminal complaint. 'Our attacks needs to be as big as possible,' he allegedly said. 'We can do minor assassinations before the big attack for training.' At first he told the FBI that he didn't mean to go through with his plans, but then he said he planned the attacks between June 21 and June 23 because his parents would be out of town. He claimed that he had looked for possible targets in the online Yellow Pages and had asked the undercover agent to kill his parents. He also asked for the undercover worker's help with obtaining a silencer. Sullivan also allegedly promised to send the agent money to kill his parents and to recruit others to the 'Islamic State of America.' Authorities went to his home on Friday and took him into custody without incident. At his home, they found a silencer, according to the court papers. Sullivan 'was planning assassinations and violent attacks in the United States,' said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John P. Carlin. Magistrate remand 2 homosexual suspects for having sex with 2 minors

2 homosexual suspects were yesterday remanded in Onitsha prison by the Chief Magistrate in Onitsha, presided over by Nkemdilim Ike, in order to consider applications by the parties to the case. Ebuka Anyasi, 23, and Michael Ikegbunam, 19, were detained in Onitsha Prisons on June 15 for allegedly committing felony by having carnal knowledge of two minors, Ifechukwu Okafor, 14, and Tagbo Chukwuma. The act lasted for 7 days, while both victims were locked in confinement in Okoloji Street, Odoakpu in Onitsha, Anambra State. The 2 accused pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge against them, but the Prosecutor, Clem Nwancho, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, opposed their bail and submitted a three-page motion application as well as an affidavit opposing the plea for bail for the two accused. Mr Godwin Madubuko also opposed their plea for bail on the ground that they would jump bail, and insisted that they should be remanded in prison custody to serve as a deterrence to others, pending the determination of the case. John Chukwuma, the lead defence counsel, yesterday submitted a nine-paragraph motion and an affidavit praying the court to grant the two accused bail since the offence was bailable. In her ruling,the Magistrate, adjourned the matter to July 1 to enable her study the various written applications of the parties in the matter and decide whether to grant the two accused bail or not. However, some lawyers in Onitsha have expressed fears over a grand plan to suppress the matter by some unknown big wigs in the state who were working round the clock to ensure the case was frustrated because of their involvement in the act.
